tawa in germany

After a very long search, I finally found a tawa to end my misery.

So, no meal is complete for the Asian families if it does not involve making rotis on tawa. I came to Germany initially in my western food spirit. I saw all these amazing ingredients only heard on Masterchef, so naturally I made salads, baked stuff, experimented with all the new ingredients I saw.

This lasted for 3 months and I started missing a part of me, fresh rotis. I had to buy roti tawa in Germany

Tawa Buying Guide: What to Look for When Buying a Tawa in Germany

Material

  • Cast Iron – Best heat retention and even cooking. Perfect for puffed rotis, but requires seasoning and a bit more care.
  • Non-stick – Easy to clean and great for beginners. Just avoid metal utensils to protect the coating.
  • Stainless Steel – Durable and rust-resistant, but can take longer to heat up evenly.
  • Aluminum – Lightweight and affordable, though it may not hold heat as well as heavier options.

Stove Compatibility

  • Induction-Friendly – Check for a flat that works on induction cooktops.
  • Gas Stove – Almost all tawas work on gas, but you can choose a slightly concave base to focus heat in the center.
  • Electric stove-Friendly – Check for a flat that works on electric cooktops.

Size

  • For standard rotis, a 25–30 cm diameter tawa works best. If you prefer larger parathas or dosas, go for 30 cm or bigger.

Weight

  • Lightweight tawas heat quickly and are easier to handle.
  • Heavier tawas retain heat longer and give more consistent results but may be harder to move around.

Handle Design

  • Look for heat-resistant handles so you can flip rotis safely.
  • Wooden or silicone grips are comfortable to hold.
  • Detachable handles are a plus if you have limited kitchen storage.

Hard Anodized Aluminium

Best for: Even heat distribution

Pros: Durable, scratch-resistant, heats quickly

Cons: Slightly pricier than regular non-stick

Where to buy best tawa in Germany?

There were alot of options of dosa pans around in Germany, saw them at IKEA, TKmaxx, Amazon and every home store around. Now here’s the problem, in Germany there are two types of stoves, Induction and Electric and not every pan would suit every stove. So it is very very important to make sure that your flat tawa or pan is compatible to your stove type.

For rotis, it is important to have a steady high heat to the pan. With induction pan this is easier than electric stove which has heat flickers time to time. A dosa pan might be a temporary solution.

After months of research, I resorted to an Indian supermarket which will be easily available in your city, there might be atleast one. In case there are none, please do not hesitate to order online. If nothing can be find, you can find granite pans at TKmax.

Indian/Indisch Store

Here is what I got from Indian Store, a prestige dosa pan suitable for rotis on both induction and electric stove.
Price range 25 – 30 Euros

TKmaxx

In case of no Indian store look for these at TKmax:
Price range 18 – 25 Euros

Amazon

For ordering tawa on Amazon:
Price range: Slightly expensive

Tawa Maintenance Tips

Great! you’ve got your tawa and want it to last for atleast 5-6 years. Here’s how to properly clean your tawas:

  • Use light sponge for scrubbing, get your hands on scrubdady sponge (I personally love it!)
  • Avoid steel wool – instantly destroys the coating of your pan

Summary – Best tawa in Germany for rotis

Two Important points here:

  • Know your stove type
  • Find a compatible pan at 1) Prestige from Nearest Indian Store 2)TKmaxx
    3) Amazon.de
