Best Mattress in Germany

Finding the best mattress in Germany required alot of thought. A mattress that is cheap in price but not in quality is always ideal, especially if you have just moved and do not want to splurge all your money on mattress while you still have to furnish the house. Typically Mattresses in Germany are quite expensive so in this blog you will find reasonable priced one.

Find a brief comparison of leading mattress companies in Germany:

It took us a while to order a mattress even before moving into an unfurnished apartment and having no mattress to actually test fully. Typically mattresses are not something you would just buy online without testing them, there are alot of components, types and personal preference involved.

After researching through reviews of multiple companies, we went ahead with taking the risk of ordering an online mattress in germany. Yes, without testing it!

Top contenders did included IKEA mattress being reviewed oftenly about. However, now one year into buying a mattress online, we can totally agree that the one we ordered from this new brand this was the best decision. Here’s what we got!

BETT1 BODYGUARD – Anti-Cartel Mattress

The company BETT1 only operates online. They claim to have the best quality, best return and exchange policy that allows you to test the mattress fully and even return if it is not comfortable for you. Here is a summary of the mattress:

FeatureWhat it isWhy it helps you sleep better
Dual firmness (2-in-1)One side medium-firm, the other firmer — you flip the mattress depending on preference. Great for people who are unsure which firmness suits them, or whose comfort needs change (e.g. due to body weight, pregnancy, aches). You can test both without buying two mattresses.
QXSchaum® foam core (~18.5 cm high)Advanced cold-foam (“Kaltschaum”) material. The core height is about 18.5 cm. Good depth for support, especially for hips, shoulders. Also the foam is responsive and supposed to retain shape for many years.
Shape stability / durabilityThe foam resists forming deep body impressions (“Liegekuhlen”) and remains stable over time. Means less sagging, more even support, better for long-term comfort (especially for heavier people or side sleepers).
Stiftung Warentest “Testsieger”Score of 1.6 in tests by Germany’s consumer safety/testing body. Gives trust; indicates it’s been objectively measured in lab tests/comparisons, which many customers value when buying something important like a mattress.
100-night trial (“Probeschlafen”) + money-back guaranteeYou can test it at home for ~100 nights; if you don’t like it, return it. Removes risk. People often can’t judge a mattress in a few minutes in a store; trial period helps ensure real comfort in your own bed.
10-year warranty on the coreWarranty covering the mattress core (“Kern”), for 10 years. Shows confidence of the manufacturer in durability; gives buyer peace of mind that defects or serious sagging will be handled.
Made in Germany / EU & construction qualityDeveloped in Germany; foam cores produced in Germany; cover sewn in Germany or Europe; assembled 100 % in Germany. Helps with quality control, supports local supply, likely better regulatory oversight. Also often better for environmental standards.
Free delivery / doorstepDelivered to your door within Germany, free of shipping cost. Convenience; no hassle with large package customers don’t need to worry about hidden delivery fees.
Return / free returnsIf the mattress doesn’t suit you in the trial, Bett1 offers free return (“kostenfreie Retoure”). Low risk for buyer; helps remove “buyer’s remorse.”

Possible Problem

  1. The mattress is relatively thick and medium-hard/firmer; for people who want a very soft or plush mattress, it might be too firm.

2. Although shape stability is advertised, longer-term experience (many years) may vary per body weight. Heavier people may still notice sagging or less comfort on edges. (Some reviews mention strong chemical smell initially.)

3. Returns mean someone must handle disposing of the old mattress; although Bett1 handles return for theirs, the buyer still needs to deal with their old one.

4. For some, the cover fabric care instructions (washing, returning the cover to shape, etc.) might be more work than expected.

Emma Matratze

Another widely popular and similar online mattress in Germany can be found at Emma Matratze. People have had alot great things to say about this brand and I believe they have similar good offerings like BETT1. The only slight difference is the price. BETT1 is very reasonable when compared with other options around. Emma however, might come off as slightly pricier.

IKEA MATTRESS

Personally, I would suggest if you have a guest bedroom which is not used very often then IKEA mattresses work well too. Especially because they are compatible with the extendable beds that can be compacted into a sofa and extended for additional sleeping bed. IKEA is popular for carrying such bed frames and this works great when you are short of bedrooms and want to save space. IKEA foam mattress , work pretty well for extendable beds and are comfortable as guest beds.

AIR MATTRESS GERMANY

Temporary resort but a good backup to have if you have limited space when you have a guest over. But to be honest, air mattress is only comfortable as long as you do not sleep on it more than 3 days. This comes off as a personal experience. Still, it would not harm to own one. While amazon has good options of air mattresses, you can also find a sturdier option from JYSK. Pair this mattress with an air cushion and you are sorted! Temporarily.

Extra Tip: Whenever you buy a mattress in Germany, make sure to flip its side after every few months to prevent mold on the mattress. In case you feel your mattress is getting mold, immediately clean with concentrated Vinegar available easily in every superstore.
